Welcome to BAM

Welcome to the Business Association of Multicultural Students (BAM), a student organization at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. Our mission is to provide our members with a diverse perspective of today’s global business environment and assist them in their pursuit of professional excellence and community leadership. We host weekly meetings as well as various social and networking events throughout the school year. In order to accomplish our mission we continue to host weekly meetings, semi-annual volunteer/charity events, social events and we end each year with our annual End-of-the Year Banquet.

Our History

In 1983, five Carlson School of Management students got together and found the Business Association of Minority Students. The purpose of this club was to help disadvantaged students, who were mostly first generation college students, learn about different opportunities in business and to help them build a network of corporate relationships with companies throughout the Twin Cities. Weekly club meetings were held on Wednesday afternoons designed for company representatives to showcase internship and full-time opportunities with their company and to recruit from BAM.

Our Name

As the business arena changed and diversity took on a new meaning, BAM officially changed its name to the Business Association of Multicultural Students in 1996. By changing its name, BAM revamped its mission to promote diversity in thinking by providing students of different races, backgrounds, colleges, and majors the opportunity to build relationships in the community and in their career interests. Unlike other student organizations, BAM is not focused on one aspect of business, its niche is in its variety of focus whether its finance and marketing or entrepreneurial and corporate.

Our Logo

header logoBAM’s official logo underwent rebranding and was released in the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. During our rebranding process, we aimed to create a logo that would represent BAM’s focus on continuous development as well as professionalism, and we believe that this logo conveys that message.

The new BAM logo was developed through crowdsourcing using the design website mycroburst.com This design was selected out of hundreds of potential contenders to be the new BAM logo!
