What We Do
BAM's Mission: 3 P's
- Providing Professional Development in all Disciplines of Business
- Perfecting the Relationship Between Students and the Business Industry
- Promoting Multiculturalism, Leadership, and Community Service
In order to accomplish our mission we continue to host weekly meetings, semi-annual volunteer/charity events, social events and we end each year with our annual End-of-the Year Banquet.
How we Began
In 1983, five Carlson School of Management students got together and found the Business Association of Minority Students. The purpose of this club was to help disadvantaged students, who were mostly first generation college students, learn about different opportunities in business and to help them build a network of corporate relationships with companies throughout the Twin Cities. Weekly club meetings were held on Wednesday afternoons designed for company representatives to showcase internship and full-time opportunities with their company and to recruit from BAM.
Our Name
As the business arena changed and diversity took on a new meaning, BAM officially changed its name to the Business Association of Multicultural Students in 1996. By changing its name, BAM revamped its mission to promote diversity in thinking by providing students of different races, backgrounds, colleges, and majors the opportunity to build relationships in the community and in their career interests. Unlike other student organizations, BAM is not focused on one aspect of business, its niche is in its variety of focus whether its finance and marketing or entrepreneurial and corporate.
Our Logo
BAM's official logo was created in 2005 by Patrick Jaswenski, former BAM webmaster. The logo is of a business man that represents BAM’s goal of turning students into business and community leaders. Our logo is always in black because it symbolizes our diverse membership and it also represents people from all backgrounds and races.
